This year, a majority of those a part of Gen Z, including myself, will have the opportunity to vote in this year’s election, which I consider one of the most important elections thus far. I’ve especially realized the impact Gen Z has on everybody else through the recent uprise of protests revolving around Black Lives Matter. Here are three reasons why I consider Gen Z the most powerful generation:

Social Activism Has Become Increasingly Better Through Gen Z

Gen Z has been protesting and fighting against racial injustice more than ever. Gen Z has a passion for politics, and they will be the first to call out racism, homophobia, or any other kind of ignorance uttered by other people. The majority of in-person protests and movements that you may have witnessed over the past couple of months have been organized or attended by teens or young adults. Not to mention, this generation grew up with the internet, so even though a pandemic may have stopped some from protesting, they brought their activism there where they feel most comfortable.

Gen Z Sabotaged Trump’s Election

Now, this might be the best thing that has ever happened. If you don’t know the full story, let me explain. President Trump’s Campaign in Tulsa, Oklahoma in June was expecting a million people based on the ticket requests, but that never happened. In reality, the attendance was much lower because TikTok users registered hundreds of thousands of tickets for the campaign just not to show up to the rally as a prank. The idea was first created by K-Pop stans which then quickly spread to TikTok, and I honestly was laughing so hard when I found out about this. Gen Z has the ability to ruin Trump’s rally just through social media, and I think this is one of the most powerful things this generation has ever done.

Gen Z Is Changing How They Identify Fashion

Putting politics aside, I feel like gen z has come up with key styles that have been mostly created through TikTok. For example, there is the soft girl or soft boy style which involves pastel colors, rosy cheeks, or sweaters; femininity is what really ties this style together. There is also the E-girl or E-boy style which incorporates chains, thick black eyeliner, or black and white striped shirts. Gen Z is open to different styles or ways of dressing because they’re bored of wearing the same things, and I think TikTok motivates this nonconformity. This forms self-confidence in not only those sporting the style but also in those who are inspired by the style.

This is obviously my opinion of Gen Z, and I may be a little biased because I’m a part of the generation. However, I truly believe that this generation has changed my life in more ways than one ranging from my activism to my style.
