PACK it Up with Mary Lee: Cheesehead Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.

Location: Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

No, this is no Muppet Show ladies and gentlemen. As part of my final vacation of “hot travel girl summer”, I had the blessed opportunity to witness my two close friends unite as one in a state I thought I would not enjoy as much as others. Nothing against the Green Bay Packers or anything, I just didn’t expect there to be more than a bunch of cheese and fields. Big whoop! I could see that at the Dairy farm on campus any day! But when I touched down at O’Hare airport, I would not have expected to have as much fun as I did with what adventures would be nearby.

For our first official day in Wisconsin, my friend and I paid the Milwaukee County Zoo for a visit. It’s an amusement to see what they have to offer from all corners of the world. I definitely did not expect to see an elephant with my own eyes. But hey, when in Wisconsin right?

After I bid the newlyweds my well wishes for their honeymoon before they drove off to downtown Denver, I slipped off to Hot House Tavern in Menomonee Falls with the groom’s mom and stepfather for a dish that Wisconsinites pride in. Two words, my dear friends: Cheese. Curds. I can only describe it to be a crispy ball with a gooey, warm, cheese center. Biting into one is a scrumptious hug for your tastebuds. Especially when it’s paired with the tavern’s ranch dip to aid in accentuating the flavor.

As I packed up to head on my final adventure of the summer, which will be covered in the next issue, I began taking mental notes on what I would want to see the next time we stopped into the Milwaukee area. If you need to stop-off in Milwaukee, be sure you have a moment to walk along the riverwalk and visit the Public Market too. Here’s to the surprises ahead and I’m ready to go!

Mary Lee currently is a junior at North Carolina State University. She reigns east of Raleigh in sweet Smithfield, NC. Prior to attending NC State, Mary Lee was selected in 2018 into State's inaugural cohort of students with the Community College Collaboration program as she attended Johnston Community College. She graduated from JCC with an Associate's degree in Art in December of 2020. Aside her academic achievements, don't assume that Mary Lee is your typical southern belle who frequents to Starbucks a little too often. Mary Lee is also an actress and model under NYMMG based in New York City, NY. Behind her (sometimes) thicker than a Snicker southern accent stands numerous magazine features and some short film appearances. For her pastime Mary Lee thrills in traveling, doing yoga, having karaoke sessions in her car Codi, and playing with her sassy cat Amber.
