Fall Fashion Trends I’m Excited About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.

New or old. Colorful or neutral. Elevated or basic. Fall fashion takes my breath away every year. I don’t know if it’s the cool breeze in the air after five months of endless sweaty days or the rustle of the color changing leaves, but fall has me feeling better than ever. Here are some fashion trends I love seeing and wearing this new season:

  1. Pleated Skirts

Though skirts are nothing new to the fashion world, I’ve noticed an increase in mini pleated skirts. For a great transition from summer to fall, opt for one of these before it gets too chilly outside. They are perfect to pair with an intricate blouse, or to spice up a sweater like this recent Taylor Swift outfit:

  1. Patterned/Colorful Sweaters

Sweaters are a staple in any fall wardrobe. With so many variations in color, size, cut, and style, you can never go wrong with building an outfit around a sweater. Elevating an outfit can be as simple as choosing a bolder colored sweater. Gigi Hadid’s Guest in Residence does it best:

  1. Knee High Boots

Forget about what shirt or bottoms to throw on, sometimes the shoe can steal the show. Leather or suede, a high boot is perfect to balance a shorter outfit. Taylor Swift is known for loving knee-high boots and this month was no different. Here she is recently (and peep the pleated skirt she paired it with):

  1. Long Coats

Depending on where you live, sometimes bundling up isn’t enough. Luckily, a big coat is always in style. Layer over a night-out look. Or go simple and pair one with a tee and pants for the perfect nonchalant fall look, like EmRata does best:

  1. Blazers

Business casual has never been this easy. Choose a basic blazer to layer over your fall fit and keep you warm. Or leave it to the blazer to complete an elegant fall ensemble. Sofia Richie, fashion it girl, chooses a black blazer to complete her all black fit here:
