David Lamb: Classmate by Day, Rock Star by Night

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.
Classmate by day and rock star by night? Talk about some serious time management skills. But as a professor once told me, we are motivated by one of two things – love or fear. In David Lamb’s case it is definitely love. I had the opportunity to talk to this member of KinGator, a local Raleigh band, right on our very own Hillsborough Street.

So what exactly is it like to manage school, work, and shows? Lamb says, “It takes a lot of diligence. Band practice is one night a week and we have shows on the weekends. As for school, I just try to write down everything and focus on the big assignments.” Did I mention that he also has a part time job – waiting tables?

I guess the glitz and glam of the aspiring artist isn’t as luxurious as I had expected. So why do it? Why invest so many hours writing, playing, practicing, singing, and working all while earning a Spanish degree?

“Because it is life,” Lamb states, “It makes life worth living. Music is the expression of every human emotion possible – it expresses you in the crazy reciprocal fashion. You don’t have to make music to feel like your expressed by the music you’re exposed to.”

Expression is what KinGator is all about. It’s the fuel that ignites their music. It’s inspiration that writes their music. And it’s the outlook they hope to bring to the music world. It’s a unique sound that is KinGator. Collected and influenced by a wide variety of artist such as: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Grateful Dead, Disco Biscuits, Miles Davis, Santana, Medeski Martin and Wood, and many more.

KinGator wants you and their fans to feel the love. The same love that for some reason or another randomly brought them together. The passion, lyrics and energy they have created in hopes to encourage an entirely different relationship between the world and the music world.
