1) Two computer chargers
I have found it really helpful to go ahead and get another computer charger. Having two means I can leave one plugged into my dorm at my desk and one remaining in my bookbag. This has saved me so many times! Before I purchased another one I was consistently forgetting my charger in my room and having my computer die halfway through the day with no solution. This may seem trivial but with everything else you need to break it’s hard to remember to put that computer charger in your bag.Â
2) water bottle
It is essential to have a good water bottle for college, a 20 oz doesn’t cover it (in my opinion) and you will end up having to refill it very frequently. Also, I would recommend getting a nicer bottle as you will be carrying it everywhere and you want to keep your water cold. Some excellent options include Hyrdroflask, yeti, coldest water, or the stylish (and functional) SlM cups from amazon.
3) Computer port adapter
if you have a mac (like me) with thunderports or windows with only two ports on the side, you’ll find that your computer doesn’t accommodate all plugins. Chipping in for an adapter to plug into your port and allow you to connect to more cables really saves headaches and allows for better study sessions! I personally have this one for my mac (it features two 2.0 USB ports, one 3.0 USB and a C – port) – Maddi’s adapter
4) Hard bottom slippers
dorm life is rough, and you will be walking through halls alot and running to the bathroom in the middle of the night! If you do invest in slippers ensure they have a hard bottom so that you can wear them in the halls or outside to the dumpster. Some fun slip-on plastic sandals are a great option too (plastic birk knock-offs – I have these)! Also these smiley slippers are SO in right now (more affordable option here)!
5) Scented trash bags
College life is busy and very hectic. Ideally, you want to take out the trash often (but this isn’t the case) so investing in scented trash bags will help fight the garbage or during the week rush when you can’t get to the dumpster to take out the trash.Â
6) a desk lamp
In my case, there were many times where I was working at my desk late at night and my makeup mirror just didn’t cut it. A bright desk lamp is essential for those late nights or early mornings when you cramming for exams or finishing that essay. Some options include – Desk Lamps Amazon.
7) emergency kit for bookbag
Normally when you leave your dorm in the mornings you aren’t able to return till the end of the day. Between paper cuts, periods, and coffee spills alot can happen during those few hours away from the dorm. Keeping some bandaids, tissue, or pads could really help during the long days!Â
8) Headphones
AirPods, or corded a good pair of headphones is essential and you’ll need them more often than you think. Personally, I think investing in a BlueTooth option is good in the long run since there might be many devices you could have to connect to (iPad, tv, computer, etc.) that may not have a headphone port.Â
9) phone wallet
Lanyards are out and phone wallets are in. These are very prevalent around campus and most students fall in love with them their first week. Their functionality is unmatched. It’s super useful to keep all your cards in one place and on the back of your phone (which is normally on your person anyway). Some really cute options are colorful from amazon, Eco friendly from Pela, or my personal fave (which comes in a pack of three and different colors)!
10) Vitamins
dorm life is the norm life. You could get sick very easily and stay sick the rest of the semester. Which doesn’t bode well for your grades or social life, keeping vitamins around and taking them regularly is a great way to keep up your immune system and avoid the nasty cold that spreads on the third floor.Â

And that’s a wrap! These are the items I’ve found the most useful and essential this past semester and investing in them might save you a headache this time around! Good luck with classes ladies and happy spring semester!Â
