The Shay B Takeover

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCCU chapter.

HBCUMade, a clothing line that spreads uplifting messages about HBCUs, is making a big wave across campus. The woman behind the madness is none other than our 2016-2017 Miss Sophomore, Shay Belvin. According to Shay, HBCUMade was inspired by the beauty and importance of African Americans and was fueled by the police brutality and injustices that still face us every day. Shay, with the help of aspiring graphic designer boyfriend, Mykol, was able to turn their vision into a reality. Shay’s t-shirts are becoming a campus staple, so let’s keep supporting her business by visiting her site!

As Miss Sophomore, Shay wants to focus on growth this school year. She’s concentrating on making plans that will result in long-term rewards. This Business major from Michigan is doing everything with purpose; her tunnel vision is setting in and it’s got its eye on the prize. She hopes to bring more confidence and self-awareness to the class of 2019. The exchange of positivity and encouraging words can truly make a difference on campus, and Shay is acknowledging this as she hopes to close the gap between women on campus when it comes to support and celebrating one another’s successes. “My plan is to have various events highlighting women on campus doing amazing things, as well as women on campus with amazing talents,” Shay said. She wants to amplify the meaning of Queenliness, and she wants every woman on campus to embrace their inner Queen.

Let’s support Shay in her endeavors and celebrate her ambitions! She’s bringing great things to our campus this school year and we’re eager to see her forthcoming accomplishments as her t-shirt line expands and reaches a broader audience.
