If you go to an HBCU, you know almost every campus has their own campus story on Snapchat. At NCAT, our campus story is filled with amazing testimonials about people doing great on exams, footage of the Fried Chicken Friday line, videos of our beloved Aggieland, and events around campus.
At the beginning of this month, we were introduced to the HBCU Story on Snapchat where you could see other people’s videos from other HBCUs in honor of Black History Month. The HBCU Snapchat story was big for us HBCU students. We were able to have an inside look at the campus life of other HBCUs around the country. I fell in love with the HBCU Snapchat story, as I’m sure every HBCU student did. In a previous article I had talked about “Black Excellence,” not only is at A&T, but it’s also at other HBCUs. These other students are doing so many great things, and as a Black millennial, I couldn’t be more proud.
On February 26th, the HBCU Snapchat story went national, and was named the Young Black America Snapchat Story. With all that the media tries to portray of young Black people, this gives people all around the country the real deal when it comes to black students in America. In addition, the Young Black America Snapchat Story allows us, Black youth, explain and portray the importance of HBCUs in America.
I think its important for people to know that we as Black people are more than what the media portrays. Our Black youth are some of the most innovative, motivated, and inspiring people I have met. It’s too bad that our excellence isn’t as publically broadcasted as it should be.
So, shout out to Snapchat for this amazing contribution to nation. I’m sure everyone around the country learned the truth regarding Young Black America, and learned about our impact on society.
