What Friends Are For..

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCAT chapter.

Telling everyone “I don’t have any friends” seems like the cool thing to do these days. People constantly reject the thought of friends because the other cool thing to do is act like you don’t care about anyone or anything. I’ve concluded that people who have this mindset have not had a once in a lifetime friendship that has changed their view of friendships forever. I’ve always been a loner at heart, but when I started to embrace those who embraced me, I felt so much love and affection in the air.

As a young woman, I was raised to be selective when choosing friends. My mother is very “old school” so I couldn’t bring home just any type of friend to my mother. They had to be respectful and classy young girls to be my friend and my mother expects nothing less from me. So when I went off to college in the Fall of 2014, I knew I had to have a group of friends that were respectful young ladies. I definitely found them, but it took some years! My junior year of college is when I knew I found a solid 4 females that would be my life long friends. They support me, tell me the truth at all times, tell me when I’m right or wrong, listen to my stories and most importantly they love me for me. I’ve never had to question their loyalty or if they have good intentions. I really relied on my friends when I was going through a break up in November and they were there to wipe every tear and listen to every story. Breaking up with a guy was the best thing I ever did because I helped me grow closer to my wonderful friends and helped me to see just how much you NEED friends, especially good ones.

Hi everyone! I am a sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University who should be majoring in Weddings, but is actually a Journalism & Mass Communications student with a concentration in Multimedia. Originally I am from Woodbridge, Virginia, which is about 30 minutes south of our nation’s capital. I have lived here all my life, but I’m not afraid to branch out and explore the world. This past summer I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia to engage and immerse myself in Australian culture. The experience was phenomenal and I’m already counting down the days until I can return that beautiful country. Check out my Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
