Have you ever found yourself in a bad place, where you had no motivation to do anything? Are you are feeling down? Being mentally stable is essential to having a happier life, and it all starts with you. Happiness has to be chosen rather than given.

My biggest challenge coming into college was maintaining my mental health. With this being my junior year in college, I woke up on the first day of classes and WHAM. I was hit with, what felt like a trillion different emotions. What am I going to do after college? I only have two years left. Am I prepared to be an adult? Am I doing enough or too little? So many questions and concerns overwhelmed my body.

Remaining optimistic when I do not know the outcome of things, has always been hard for me. With me being a full-time student, I found myself always doing work for my classes and having very little time to tend to my mental health. Mental health is something that I have struggled with since a little girl.  Coming into college, I knew that it would only get worse if I didn’t take action. I needed to take control of my reality and how I managed my time. Here is a list of things that has helped me manage my mental health in the midst of me becoming an adult:

1. Having a Planner and USING IT. My planner is my life. Without it, I am a complete mess.  Having a planner and writing down the meetings, assignments, classes etc. has helped me prioritize the things that I need to get done.

2. Making a list of things that made me happy. Find your favorite hobbies or something you enjoy doing. It could be as simple as taking a bubble bath. There is no limit, but you.

3. Doing something I love for at least an hour a day. Just do it, like Nike said. You only live once! Do things that will bring joy into your life, even if it’s only for an hour a day

Always remember: Take one day at a time, two days will kill you.

Talking to everyone that crosses her path, she is very different from her once introvert personality. Allowing her curiosity to lead the way into the world.
