Business Spotlight of the Week: I’ll Keep Her

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCAT chapter.

1. What inspired you to come up with your brand name, I’ll Keep Her?

“I’ll Keep Her” is actually the meaning of my name. I remember the very first time that my mother really set me down and told me the background story of how she came up with it. It had already been deeply rooted for me, but for some reason it still resonated so much more than what I had already initially understood at that time. And then later on falling forward into my college years, the meaning of my name began feeling like a healing canvas for me. The world seemed to take so much of who I was, I knew that I needed to keep myself despite what I felt like didn’t keep me in life.” – Akiva’ Rooks

2. When did you start I’ll Keep Her?

“I’ll Keep Her has always been something that I’ve practiced since my freshman year: I’ve always been bedside to writing.  And anything that allowed me to practice self-care and self-love, anyone could find me in it. But, it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college, that I really began to mold I’ll Keep Her into a brand. Sophomore year was a really confusing time for me. I was really in a transition stage of growing into a woman and I felt like I just didn’t know how to navigate through anything that was showing up. But even with all of the world’s noise in the way, I knew that I didn’t want to lose myself. So as one way to get closer to God, I began to practice celibacy. And throughout that, not only did my spirituality strengthen, but so did so many other aspects of myself magnify as well. Physically I was even glowing! I felt so in tune with who I was because of those self-love habits like self-care and self-awareness that I began developing.” -Akiva’ Rooks

3.What is your brands main goal/purpose?

I’ll Keep Her’s main goal is to enhance the quality of life for females. We want to provide females with a sacred place to practice self-care, self-love, and self-awareness. We’ll have creative events, workshops, and art showcasing to touch on internal and external health, so that they’re able to get more in tune with themselves. We also have an I’ll Keep Her self-love package where we’ll give a deserving female a free hair-style, spa day and other self-love gifts.” -Akiva’ Rooks

4. Do you have any upcoming events?

“I’ve been doing a series of pre-launch events that will lead up to the ultimate I’ll Keep Her launch event. But that won’t be until a little later in the Summer. However, on March 26th, I’ll be doing a women’s conference that’s going to partnered with some other inspiring women. Keep on the lookout for other pop up events!” -Akiva’ Rooks

5. Name 3 fun facts about yourself!

“– I’m a Poet planning to release my poetry more of this year

-I have to have fruit and ice-cream in my house at all times

-I was an editor in helping to publish my mother’s first book: The Grass is Greener on the Other Side.” – Akiva’ Rooks

“I’ll Keep Her was just recently incorporated in August of 2018. We’re still an early start-up non-profit and it can be hard to get the funding that we need in order to manifest the vision that we have for these events without the proper resources.

With that, we’ve already raised $267 solely from college students who really believes in the vision. This was in such a small time with little promotion involved. We’re currently working towards reaching our financial goals to be able to fulfill our brands mission. Anything helps!

Anyone is welcome to donate to our non-profit for resources needed for our self-care events via our go fund me page or cash app; $AkivaRooks”
