Affordable Christmas Gift Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCAT chapter.

Every year there seems to be the struggle of trying to find the perfect gift for Christmas. This leaves one asking themselves these three questions: Will they actually like it? Can I afford this? Or lastly…my personal favorite: Did I already get them this? Well look here! I think I can truly solve your problem with these five affordable gifts for your  Christmas 2017.

1: CanvART

Canvas Paintings are the most affordable “Do It Yourself” gifts. What better way to surprise someone special than with your own creative words and/or artistic ability. This gift will not only be cherishable, but also hold sentimental value to the receiver. To create this perfect art piece and meaningful gift, you will only need the following items:

  1. Canvas (Any size of your choosing)

  2. Oil Paint (Shows better on canvas)

  3. Paint Brushes (Preferably the variety pack)

2: Wrappin’ Goodies

Ever been unsure of what exactly to get someone for Christmas? Well, just try a little bit of everything. This can also be a well thought out gift for the receiver. This can be given to either gender and filled with needs or the individuals favorite items. Approximately $15 or less, when purchasing from the right stores. Here are some REQUIRED items:

  1. Basket (Any size)

  2. Clear wrapping paper (Bigger than basket)

  3. Ribbon (To tie, adding decorative touch)

  4. Favorite Items (Needs and/or Wants)

3: Picture Perfect

It’s all about the vision. This is a memorable gift to give to a close friend or family member. You can take the time to decorate it with you favorite quotes and fill it with pictures of your most cheerful moments. Imagine your loved one unwrapping moments that mean the most to you and them. This idea only needs the following items:

  1. Picture Frame or Carved Wooden Board

  2. Paint/Decorations (decorate your frame)

  3. Developed Photographs (Memorable moments)

4: Flip It and Burn It

Does your gift receiver enjoy candles and wine? Imagine collaborating their two favorite things into one gift. The answer to this great gift is simply your DIY Candle Holder. This is a very unique way to provide a very significant and beneficial gift. Like the canvas, this allows one to show their artistic ability. Whether it is good art or bad art…It is the thought that counts right? Here are a few REQUIRED items to make this gift possible:

  1. Wine glass (use the flat bottom as the candle holder)

  2. Decorations (to decorate to your satisfaction)

  3. Candle wax (a smell that the receiver would love, of course)

5: Turn Up The Mixes

Is he/she a music lover? Running low on funds? Create a playlist/ CD with all of their favorite jams. This is a very simple and inexpensive gift for someone who means a lot to you. You can fill the playlist with songs that will bring back happy moments. You can also add songs that reminds you of this particular person. The only two items needed here:

  1. iTunes Account/ CD (To save or store any song)

  2. Memory (To reflect on the moments shared, this will also help with choosing the perfect songs)

Although, this list may seem a little cheesy to you. You friend and family will definitely remember and the thought put into it. This also allows you reveal how much you really know about them and what you truly appreciate. If you are trying to save some coins but also want to give the perfect gift, take some of these great DIY projects into consideration!

Happy Holidays!

Hi everyone! I am a sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University who should be majoring in Weddings, but is actually a Journalism & Mass Communications student with a concentration in Multimedia. Originally I am from Woodbridge, Virginia, which is about 30 minutes south of our nation’s capital. I have lived here all my life, but I’m not afraid to branch out and explore the world. This past summer I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia to engage and immerse myself in Australian culture. The experience was phenomenal and I’m already counting down the days until I can return that beautiful country. Check out my Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
