The Year of Opportunities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mville chapter.

This past year has been crazy. It was full of new opportunities, life changing experiences, and adventures. It taught me that even though you could be in your senior year, you’re never really done with school; through every difficult moment there is always something waiting for you at the end of that time. There is never a dull moment at any college because we’re always able to make a rainy day into a day full of laughter until the sun finally comes out. That is the power we hold; we do not let the worst get the best of us.

Every day this year has been packed with opportunities from joining the Her Campus Mville team to seeing We the Kings perform at Quad Jam this year. Even through all the crazy moments, I do not recall a day where I didn’t have a new opportunity come up whether it was to learn something new or being able to do something I had never done before. College is great in that way. If we seize everything we put our minds to, we can get it done. Senior year was a tough year, but after putting my mind to every goal came with in the Fall Semester, I could accomplish a lot of what was on my list. I wanted to do things that I never could do in my last three years, and I did most of them. I wanted to go to new places, learn new things, and get a feeling of what it would be like to be independent. As far as going to new places and learning new things goes, I think I did a pretty good job at that. I ventured off to the city and Connecticut a few times, and I learned so many life lessons that could be an article. Truth be told, you will never be one hundred percent independent. Even if you think that you are independent, you still go to your family and loved ones for support along the way. I mean, they are the reasons we are where we are, right?

Here is my mission for all that are reading this, when you go home this summer and unpack reflect on your year at Mville. Could it have gone better? Did you do everything you set out to do? Create a bucket list of things you did not get to do and still want to do. The bucket list will come in handy when you come back for the Fall. Check off everything that you could do with your friends, and keep track of all the new, fun adventures you will go on. Also, do not forget about your future after college. I know it is a scary thought, I’ve been there and still working on getting where I want to be. When I was a Freshmen, I made a list of the different companies and jobs I would want to pursue by the end of college. Recently, I found that list and applied to some of those jobs, and was lucky enough to get a position at one of my favorite companies. However, it may take some time to get to where I want to be within the company, but I think it is still worth it because so far it has been making me happy.

Although I will be completing my degree this summer, this is my goodbye to college and all the memories I’ve made here. From transferring to finding my family away from home, this was one of the best experiences I have had. It is true what everyone says, college is the best times of your life, and one of the most stressful times of your life. Take every new opportunity you’re giving, and remember that every mistake is a lesson to learn something from.
