Kent Jones: VMA Song of The Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mville chapter.

The MTV Video Music Awards has amazing categories from Best New Artist to Best Collaboration. Kent Jones landed in the Song of The Summer category for his song “Don’t Mind”. He was put up against Fifth Harmony, The Chainsmokers, Major Lazer and more! We caught up with Kent and got a chance to see how he feels about being nominated in such a great category!

Shanice: “You’re nominated for Song of The Summer. That’s a really big deal since you’re setting the tone of the summer for so many people. How does that make you feel?”

Kent Jones: “I’m just glad I can be of influence to the masses at all whether I win the nomination or I don’t win the nomtinaion. I’m glad to be here and be engulfed in this culture and impact people.”

Shanice: “What are you looking forward to at the VMA’s?”

Kent Jones: “Britney Spears, Beyonce, Kanye West. This is the first time seeing the three of them live.”

Shanice: “So how do you feel about Kanye having the stage to himself?”

Kent Jones: “Listen man, the man’s a genius. And I can’t wait to see what he comes out with. I can’t figure it out.”

Shanice: “What advice would you give to any college student right now? Especially someone who wants to be here in your shoes?”

Kent Jones: “Listen, if college is for you keep going. If it’s not, be honest with yourself. I know your family may try to convice you this, but if it’s not do what you gotta do. And most of all, take your time and out work everybody. Also, we the best!”
