Streaming Shows That Make Me Feel Powerful
There’s no better way to celebrate women’s history month than to binge-watch some shows that will make you feel like you can do just about anything. These are some shows I have been loving that have dynamite women characters.
The Bold Type
The Bold Type on Hulu follows three best friends whose lives collide when they find themselves all working for fictional women’s magazine: “Scarlet.” Not only are the characters unappolgetically feminist but the show touches on so many important topics such as homosexuality, the BRCA gene mutation, standing up for your political views and dating an older man. The series has fashion, comedy and of course romance that will make you want to pack up all your things and move to the Big Apple.
The Queen’s Gambit
Once you watch this Netflix original you will be wishing the series had way more than seven episodes. The show looks at the rise to fame of child prodigy, Elizabeth Harmon. Even though she starts her journey in an orphanage in Lexington, Kentucky, she soon becomes dominant in the game of chess. Harmon’s intelligence, love for the game and determination to be the best makes her unstoppable.
The Crown
This Netflix original centers around the British Royal Family and is a must see in my opinion. Even though the show isn’t obvious in it’s stance on empowering women, the female characters in the show definitely display their strength. Whether it be with her husband, her family or even Winston Churchill, there are many instances in the series where Queen Elizabeth must stand up for what she believes to be right. Princess Margarett also plays an impactful role in the show. Even though the whole world is expecting the princess to be practically perfect, she cannot help but be anything but her pure, genuine self.
