You’re laying in bed and your phone buzzes. It’s an email from your university warning you of campus closure due to current weather conditions. Your heart starts beating faster, can you believe what you’re seeing? You rub your eyes, that’s right. Snow day.Â
Oh, the possibilities. There’s a very slight chance you’ll be able to leave the house, but fear not here are some things to keep you perfectly occupied on this glorious, God-sent snow day.Â
1. The obvious: play in the snow
I’m not sure if there’s an age when you outgrow playing in the snow. I hope not, but if there is, I don’t know anyone who has hit it yet. So, strap up your boots, throw on your gloves and coat, grab a trashcan lid and your best friends because you’re going sledding! And if you get tired of that split up into teams and start hurling snowballs. Snowball fights never go out of style, so start dodging!
2. Snow Ice Cream
Snow Ice Cream is extremely easy to make, and super underrated. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the outside weather without having to actually spend time outside. All you need is:
- 5-6 cups of snow
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 tsp of vanilla
If it starts to melt, just pop it in the freezer for 10 minutes! This is the perfect treat for your snow day.
3. Baking
If you’re someone who would rather have a warm treat, start baking! There’s nothing cozier than some warm brownies or cookies on a freezing day like today! You’re trapped in your house and can’t get brownie mix? No problem, you can make brownies in a mug just using the microwave!
- 1 egg
- 4 tb of sugar
- 1 tb of flour
- 2 tb of cocoa
- 2 tb of oil
Stir it altogether then put your mug in the microwave for 1 minute and 40 seconds and you’ll have the perfect brownie! If you made snow cream, add a dollop of that on top to make the sweetest snow day treat!Â
4. Follow a makeup tutorial
How often do we watch makeup tutorials and wish we had the time to try that exact look. Of course we could give it a shot before work or school, but what if it goes horribly wrong?! I mean, we have to be in public. We can’t look like a Goth princess in training. So, we don’t risk it. Oh, but today, let’s risk it! Gather all the makeup you’re too afraid to touch, turn on that YouTuber you aspire to be and go to town, sister!Â
5. Pamper yourself
Um, two words: spa day. Yeah, I said it. Break out the face masks. Grab the bath bombs. Pour that glass of wine and turn on John Mayer. It’s only natural, it’s only right.
6. Binge watch your favorite Netflix series.
No one has to know you watched three seasons of ‘Friends’ in one day. No one’s going to ask because they probably did, too. So grab your fuzzy socks, turn on your heated blanket to the highest degree, grab your hot chocolate and nestle in because a lazy day like today doesn’t come around very often, so you better make use of it!
7. Read
Spend your day cuddled up in bed with your favorite book! Set down your phone. Power off your laptop. If you’ve been looking for a break from work and from the real world, today’s your day. You’re stuck in the house, so dive into that book and enjoy that “other world,” because girly, tomorrow’s comin’.
8. Play catch-up
Now, I know this isn’t the most hype way to spend your snow day, but if you’ve been finding yourself getting behind and praying for an extra day to get caught back up, here’s your chance. Whether you need to get caught back up on work, school assignments, event planning or just check some things off your list that you don’t have time for in a regular day, do it! Then when you’re done with that, work ahead. You’ll think yourself tomorrow.Â
