I think by this point we have all seen the memes about the new Netflix movie ‘Tall Girl’. And if you are an avid Netflix watcher, then you might have watched it. If not, I am here to give you the rundown on what this film is all about.

‘Tall Girl’ is about a high school junior named Jodi who is 6 feet 1 inches tall. She goes through life trying to blend in, even though that’s hard to do at her height. She hates her height and simply wants to be a normal teenager. Her angsty teenage life is soon changed, however, when a tall and attractive exchange student comes from Sweden.

The exchange student stays at her best guy friend’s house. He goes by Dunkleman (not quite sure what that is about) and he just so happens to have a massive crush on Jodi. Imagine that! In an effort to win over Stig, the exchange student, Jodi’s pageant queen sister and mother decide to makeover Jodi. In the process of trying to get with Stig, Jodi causes problems with Stig’s girlfriend and with her best friends. To Jodi’s surprise, Stig ends up liking her and they spend lots of time together until something bad happens. The exchange student turns out to be a jerk and SPOILER ALERT, she ends up with Dunkleman, the friend with a crush. In the end, Jodi gives a big speech about how she loves herself even if she is tall and everyone lives happily ever after.

This movie does feature some cool people you may know, however. If you were ever a Dance Moms fan, then you may have recognized the lead actress, Ava Michelle. Ava was actually kicked off of Dance Moms for being too tall. You may also recognize Jodi’s sister as Sabrina Carpenter. My personal favorite actress in this film was Angela Kinsey. If you’re a fan of The Office, like I am, then you will recognize her immediately.

While this film did feature some recognizable actors and actresses, it still wasn’t that great of a movie in my opinion. It followed the same plot line of every other romantic teen movie and was extremely predictable. That being said, I did still enjoy it. I like to watch cheesy teen movies occasionally. The real problem with this film was that being tall was the HUGE difference that set the main character apart. On Twitter people have been talking about how there are so many more minorities the movie could have been about besides tall. Considering tall girls as a diverse minority just doesn’t seem like a great idea when there are so many other minorities that the movie could have showcased instead.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie enough to watch the entire film. To me, it wasn’t anything special mainly because I have seen it before in every other chick flick. I would give ‘Tall Girl’ two out of five stars considering the cheesy plot and lack of actual diversity.
