Healthy people are those who set an intention and apply healthy practices to their lives to achieve that goal. No matter what it is you want to achieve, the ability to implement habits into your life is a vital skill that you can apply to all aspects of your life.

Here are some tips to help you create healthy and happy habits:

  • Start small.

    • Don’t start your journey by cutting out your negative habits cold turkey. Let’s say your goal is to cut out your daily bottle of soda. You don’t have to say goodbye to the delicious drink on day one of your healthy habit journey. Aim for only drinking the soda five days a week. Then, the next week aim for only drinking the soda for four days. Do this until you only reach for the drink as a treat.

  • Attach your new action to your routine.

    • If you are implementing a new practice into your daily routine, attach the action to something you already do on a regular basis. For example, if you want to start drinking more water, fill a glass before you go to bed and drink it right when you get out of bed in the morning. If you want to get more exercise, start taking walks right after you finish dinner each night.

  • Find an accountability partner.

    • Tell your loved one about the goal you are trying to attain! Knowing that someone else is aware of what you are trying to achieve will help to keep you accountable. Knowing that person could ask you at any point about your progress will make you think twice about ensuring that you complete your goal each day.

  • Stay positive.

    • Don’t be so hard on yourself! Take your healthy habit journey day by day. If things don’t go perfectly today, it’s okay. Learn from your mistakes and do better tomorrow. A good attitude and flexible mindset are key to making these positive changes truly positive!
