Five Reasons Students Should Subscribe to The New York Times

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Murray State chapter.
1. IT’S FREE.

This cannot be stressed enough. The New York Times offer is an incredible deal of a one-year FREE subscription for college students. As college students, “free” is a word we like to hear, and we like to hear it often. Don’t miss this chance to access NYT articles for no cost at all because eventually you will have to become a full-fledged adult and pay for it.

2. It is easily accessible via the NYTimes app.

The NYTimes app makes it even easier to access the latest news quickly. The app’s layout is easy to navigate. You can select certain topics to follow which helps the app determine what articles you might be most interested in. Then it will include them in your news feed.

3. You stay up to date on the most recent news.

This basically goes without telling, but I’ll say it anyways. Newspapers make us aware of what is going on in the world around us. It is very important to know what is going on around you. Even though it may not directly affect you, on some level it does affect you or someone you know. Keep that in mind.

4. Not only will you have quick and easy access to the most recent national news but the most recent global news as well.

NYT covers national issues as well as global issues. Want to know what is going on in the United Kingdom with Brexit? Hop on the NYT website or app. Don’t know what Brexit is but hear tons of people talking about it and don’t want be left out of the loop any longer? Visit the NYT website or app.

5. Gives you something to talk about when meeting new people.

Keeping up with the news gives you something to talk about when meeting new people. It can help you find common ground. It makes you seem well-informed and knowledgeable.
