Celebrating Valentine’s Day by Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Murray State chapter.

It’s really hard to be single on Valentine’s Day; I can tell you that first hand. Seeing couples going on dates, holding hands, or just being together can make you feel lonely, or like something is wrong with you. You can’t let that get you down, though. Valentine’s Day is a day for love, not just for a significant other, but for yourself. Practicing a little self love can not only improve your day, but improve your whole outlook for the week, month, or even year. So instead of waiting around for someone to treat you, treat yourself to your perfect Valentine’s Day with these ideas!

Buy Yourself Flowers!

I know it seems like we need to wait for someone to buy us flowers, but this is something simple we can totally do ourselves! The look of flowers can really improve a room, and when you look at them, they just make you happy! Walmart sells bouquets in different sizes, but I always go with the ones that are about $5. It is the cheapest option you can get, but they have all different kinds of flowers, like roses, daisies, and a lot more! Pair it with a cute vase and you have the perfect Valentine’s gift for yourself.

Buy Your Own Chocolate (or Other Candy)!

You don’t have to tell me to buy chocolate twice! Not only does it release endorphins, but dark chocolate is actually pretty good for your body. If you don’t like chocolate, that’s totally fine! Walmart, Kroger, and even Dollar Tree sell gummies, conversation hearts, and hard candies that would be perfect for your sweet tooth.

Take Yourself on a Date!

For the longest time, I thought that going out by myself would be so embarrasing. Suprisingly, it’s not. Spending time with yourself can be extrememly therapudic. It can give you time to think and recharge without having to be with other people at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, spending time with your friends is fantastic, but a little alone time can go a long way. Take yourself out to that restaurant that you have alway wanted to try, get some takeout from your favorite buffet, or even cook your own meal at home! As long as it makes you happy!

Have a Spa Night!

I am always in for a spa day, and this is completely customizable for you! Face masks, foot masks, bubble baths, and more would be perfect for this relaxing evening. Personally, I like bubble clay face masks, a nice warm bath, and a good book!

Get Your Nails Done!

Whenever I get my nails done, I just feel luxurious and fancy. You can choose your favorie color, if you want gel, what nail shape you want, and more! I might even opt in for that manicure and pedicure option, if I were you!

These are just a few of the things that you can do on Valentine’s Day when you are spending it by yourself, of course. Just know that you don’t always have to spend time with someone in order to have a good time! Valentine’s Day is a day for love, so give yourself a little love and plan a day just for you!
