10 Things to do On a Snow Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Murray State chapter.

Ahhhhh, winter. You either hate it, or you love it. And you never know when Mother Nature is going to decide to dump 13 inches of snow overnight, so just in case she does get a little angry, here are 10 things to keep you occupied!

Stay indoors and watch movies

Movies are always a good idea, but they sound even better when you can hardly travel anywhere else. While the temperatures are frigid, your warm bed or couch will always keep you cozy. There’s plenty of good Hallmark, Disney Channel, and Lifetime movies (my personal favorite) that could keep you up for days with your eyes peeled to the screen.

Make coffee or hot chocolate

Who doesn’t want a hot drink when you’re nothing but cold? Make yourself a steaming hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate (whichever you prefer) and snuggle up on the couch while you’re all wrapped in blankets.

Make snow cream

Why would you not want to turn the fluffy white snow right outside your door into a yummy ice cream-like snack. Here’s the basic recipe for an ice-cold treat: https://happyhooligans.ca/3-ingredient-delicious-vanilla-snow-ice-cream/

Take pictures outside in the snow

There’s never not a good time for basic pictures but the white snow surrounding you is the perfect background to make you look even brighter and better than before. It’s sure to get you the most Instagram likes and maybe even a couple comments about how cute you are from your friends.

Go sledding

It’s sledding, of course it’s a must when it comes to snow days. Put on all your layers and get ready for the cold because you’re hitting the hills.

Workout

There’s never a good time for working out but if you’re stuck inside all the day with nothing to do and nothing to look at, you might as well drag the old yoga mat out to the living room and start doing a couple ab exercises during the commercials of your movies. If you’re really dedicated, you could even exercise during the movie or turn the movie off. However, I would just stick to commercials because it’s better than nothing, right?

Bake cookies

Whether they are homemade or pop-in-the-oven kind of cookies, it’s always fun to have a sweet treat. If you decide to make them homemade, stirring together the ingredients, forming them into the perfect size and shape, and putting them in the oven can take up a good hour or two of your boring day and even gives you a little something to munch on while watching your Lifetime movies.

Make breakfast in the morning

What’s better to do than wake up and start cooking a homemade breakfast? Whether it’s French toast in the skillet, cinnamon rolls in the oven, or simply just bread turned into toast; there’s simply nothing quite like a hot homemade breakfast while watching the cold snowflakes stick to the ground.

Have a wine night with your friends

(If you’re of age of course!) While you’re being trapped inside for a couple days straight, it might be the best time to pop open that bottle of wine you’ve been saving and pour a glass for you and the girls. Put your feet up and relax while you’re stress free, especially when you know you’ll have to go back to work/school as soon as the snow starts to melt.

Play games

I highly suggest getting out the cards and dusting off the board games when you’re snowed in because it’ll provide a lot more entertainment than you might think. You can’t go outside to play sports, or even drive your car to different places to avoid boredom so you might as well bust out the board games and let the competitive side come out with your close family or friends.

So, in case Mother Nature decides that we all deserve to be stuck inside, at least now you’ve got some ideas on how to keep yourself entertained… for a little while, anyway.
