Finding Your Best Friend in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Muhlenberg chapter.

Finding someone or a group of people that you can relate to in college is so important. They will be your rock through the good and bad times. In my case, I found one person that understands me completely and is always there as my support system. We do literally everything together, and I am so thankful to have her as my best friend.

The funniest thing about our friendship is that for our entire lives, we lived 10 minutes away from each other, but had no idea that the other existed. I always assumed that my college friends would live far away from me, but I hit the jackpot. Now, I have a best friend at college and a best friend at home too! You’re probably thinking, “don’t you get sick of each other at some point?” We really don’t. There is always something to laugh about with her, and most of the time I’m on the floor hysterically laughing.

We drive each other crazy sometimes, but I don’t think that I could survive college without her. Every friendship has its moments where someone slips, but we always are able to work through that. We communicate easily and openly, and that is what gets us through our rough spots.

If you have a best friend, every once in a while take a step back and make sure that they know how much you appreciate them.  When I want to show my best friend how much I appreciate her, I order her Dominos.  Little things like that can make a friendship so much stronger. We both can appreciate the magic of a Domino’s Cheesy Bread and Lava Cakes.

The first year of college can be extremely challenging, and I am so grateful that I’ve had her there so support me through it. I think we can both agree that this year definitely did not go as planned, but, thankfully, we’re going to get through it with each other’s support. Next year we are living together and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans are to come.

The bottom line is, your college friends are the ones you will have for the rest of your life. Take the time to show them how much you appreciate their love and support, because they’re going to be around for a long time. Make the most out of the time you have here with them because college doesn’t last forever, but your friendship will.
