From her commitment to Phi Mu to her honors Media and Communication thesis, Shanah Sloane is this week’s campus cutie!

Major and Minor: Media and Communications & Women and Gender Studies.
Graduation Year: Class of 2017.
Campus Organizations: Phi Mu, S.A.A.G, honors Media and Communications program, and the Body Positivity Club.
Honors Thesis: My thesis focuses on Steven Universe’s representations of a same-sex couple and a female character who struggle with unrequited love and loss of another female character. The show’s representation of queer love is amazingly progressive for a children’s show (or frankly any show). But I still want to talk about how the very construction of the show’s characters (as sex-less aliens) limits itself and perpetuates the idea that depictions of same-sex couples are not appropriate for children.
