March is Women’s History Month, a month where we celebrate women’s accomplishments and contributions to society. March 8th is also International Women’s Day. I have created a playlist that highlights great music by female artists. I hope you enjoy listening!

1. “Video” – India.Arie

Favorite lyric:

I’m not the average girl from your video

And I ain’t built like a supermodel

But I learned to love myself unconditionally

Because I am a queen

2. “The Circle Married the Line” – Feist

Favorite lyric:

Then I’ll head out to horizon lines

Get some clarity oceanside

3. “The Way I Am” – Ingrid Michaelson

Favorite lyric:

Cause I love you more than I could ever promise

And you take me the way I am

You take me the way I am

4. “David” – Nellie McKay

Favorite lyric:

Chaos pervades the world outside

Days offer spades of hurled outcries

Gone is the fair and five and dime

But he is there

He’s so fine

5. “My Rollercoaster” – Kimya Dawson

Favorite lyric:

You were on my mind at least nine tenths of yesterday

It seemed as if perhaps I’d gone insane

What is it about you that has commandeered my brain?

6. “New Soul” – Yael Naim

Favorite lyric:

I’m a new soul

I came to this strange world

Hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take

7. “Tennessee” – P.S Eliot

Favorite lyric:

I’ve got a west coast heart and an east coast mentality

Baby, let’s push our limits

I’ve got a racing mind and enough gas to get to Tennessee

8. “Clementine” – Sarah Jaffe

Favorite lyric:

50 states, 50 lines, 50 crying all the times

50 boys, 50 lies, 50 I’m gonna change my minds

So I changed my mind, I changed my mind

Now I’m feeling different

9. “Buses Splash with Rain” – Frankie Cosmos

Favorite lyric:

Look, Mom, I’m hobbling through

I am going to be a painter too

I make my canteen so heavy

As if I need any more water today

Cause we are not young and this isn’t a party

10. “A Better Son/Daughter” – Rilo Kiley

Favorite lyric:

But you’ll fight and you’ll make it through

You’ll fake it if you have to

And you’ll show up for work with a smile

And you’ll be better and you’ll be smarter

And more grown up and a better daughter

Or son, and a real good friend

March celebrates female achievements, but we should recognize and appreciate female contributions every day of the year. I hope you liked all the songs and have an empowering and enlightening Women’s History Month!
