Dash & Lily was so cute and I just finished binge watching it. A part of me wishes I had waited until closer to the holidays to watch it, but it’s one of those cute shows that I’m sure I’ll rewatch soon. Here is why I like this show so much and how it has managed to warm my heart in the middle of mid-term week.

First off, let’s start with the fact that I’m a fan of most of the stuff David Levithan writes. So when I heard that Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares was being made into a show, I was excited to see what it would be like. I haven’t read this particular book by David Levithan yet but it has been on my ‘to be read’ radar for a while. While I can’t compare it to the book yet, let’s talk about the story.

The story is very adorable and takes place in various spots across New York City. I love New York City so it was great to see this story unfold in the setting of New York City during the winter. The first spot is The Strand bookshop! As a lover of bookshops, this was the perfect spot for a meet-cute. But, the meet-cute in this show is a little different because the main characters don’t meet until the end and their romance starts off with a red notebook. This notebook is left in the J. D. Salinger shelf of the Strand bookshop. The notebook contains clues and solving these clues leads to the characters discovering more about each other over time.

What other elements does this show contain that make it great? Well, for starters, there’s Truth or Dare, but it’s not gross or violent. More importantly, they play it during the holidays. There’s a lot of fun things from mochi making classes to making art only to destroy it. Dash & Lily will give you this and more, and you may even end up adding some of the stuff they do to your bucket list. This story is also cheesy, but I really like cheesy stuff sometimes — like when they distract me from the pandemic and my exams.

So, all in all, Dash & Lily is a cute rom-com that’s a bit cheesy but not too cheesy and set during the holidays against the backdrop of New York City. Need I say more? I know that this article is definitely vaguer than their (quite revealing) trailer, but I don’t want to spoil this show for you. I hope you have a great early start to your safe holiday season, even if that doesn’t include watching Dash & Lily
