Spring fashion: three trends to reinvent your style this season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

To the surprise of many, our campus has been graced with a lush green, a flurry of unanticipated blossoms, and buds tentatively emerging from the skeletons of trees. Despite the recent crisp weather, it seems as if spring break’s 70-degree weather has emboldened the student body to shed their layers and venture out in sundresses and sandals, despite the 20-degree dip. We all seem determined to entice warmer weather with our spring wardrobes.

What’s making the sun come out this year?

Colour Blocking: Yes, you can match without combining like colours. Just pair a vibrant hue (or two, or three) with nudes. Be mindful of coordination, but don’t forget that opposites can attract! Here are some ideas:

  • Blue, Yellow, Orange

  • Brown, Pink, Peach

  • Purple, Blue, Teal

  • Blue, Pink, White

  • Coral, Grey, Ivory

Metallics: A silver dress or golden sheath is sure to turn the heads of all who walk by. However, if you’re looking to re-invent an outfit with a simple accessory, a pair of stark heels or a bright purse will surely draw the eye. Some trends to look for are:

  • Metallic eyeshadow

  • Silver heels

  • Large jewellery

Pastels: As always, spring is a time for birth and rejuvenation. Celebrate this with the brightness and innocence of a lavender or coral.

  • Pair with a dark accessory to avoid looking like an Easter egg

  • Wear as an accessory itself to add some vibrancy to an outfit and makes the accessory pop.

  • Pair with a bold print to brighten a statement

Above all, though, be sure to wear whatever you choose with confidence. And a smile- because corny as this sounds, it always is the best accessory.
