Seasonal Style Pieces that Every “Gossip Girl” Fan Should Own

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

It has been six seasons, 121 episodes, and 12 years since the date it aired, and I have yet to find a TV show that exceeds my love for Gossip Girl. There’s something about the escapades of our favorite Upper East Siders — Blair, Serena, Nate, Chuck, and Dan — that makes us dream about New York City penthouse-living full of drama, romance, and fashion. As November begins and fall turns to winter, I begin to rewatch (for the 27th time) my favorite Gossip Girl holiday episodes. The plaid skirts, printed tights, and bright, textured jackets always catch my eye, providing timeless seasonal style inspiration. From Blair’s preppy patterns to Serena’s laid-back, bohemian style, here are some iconic looks that every GG fan can take inspiration from this season!

Blair Waldorf

For Blair, think plaid, polka dots, and argyle. Style a fit-and-flare dress or a skirt and ruffle blouse with some ballerina flats. Complete the look with a vibrant coat or cape and one of Queen B’s iconic headbands (links for all items are provided at the end of article).

Let’s start with outerwear. Coats can be expensive, especially if you have Blair Waldorf taste, but I have a solution… TOPSHOP! TOPSHOP has a huge selection of fashionable and affordable outerwear. The following are some colorful Queen-B-inspired coats that won’t break the bank:  X X X

You’ll need a fit and flare skirt. Blair wears both high-waisted circle skirts and traditional, school uniform esqe pleated skirts. Style these with knee high socks or patterned tights and you’re almost ready for breakfast on the steps of the MET with B and her minions!

Next, add a classic sweater or blouse to give your polished look that preppy Blair Waldorf touch. Include ruffles, classic patterns, and collars.

Finish your entire ensemble with ballerina flats, smooth curls, and a headband!

Serena Van der Woodsen

Serena often rocks earth toned outerwear. Staples include a good grey blazer or camel trench coat with a matching scarf and calf-length leather boots. Wear skinny jeans, plaid pants, or a patterned skirt with dark tights to complete your Serena inspired look. The following is a guide to dressing like S:

To keep it simple, wear your favorite pair of dark wash skinny jeans as the base for this look. Then find a pair of ankle, calf, or knee height boots. Serena wears a variety of different styles, ranging from riding to heeled boots, usually in black, brown, or grey.

Next is your coat. As previously mentioned, outerwear from TOPSHOP is the way to go. In the colder months, Serena usually wears a trench coat, blazer, or pea coat.

Wear a cream-colored blouse or neutral sweater tucked in, style your hair into effortless waves, and finish your look off with accessories. Serena often wears thick scarves and carries large handbags.
