How To Redecorate Your Room during Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Stuck at home during the pandemic? Need something to do other than homework and Zoom classes? Well I’ve got the solution for you. Like anyone else in quarantine, I’ve done activities like cooking and arts and crafts to keep me busy in addition to school, but I needed some more change in my life. Being back in my childhood bedroom, I decided it needed some updates. So for people who are looking to change the way their bedroom looks, here are some ideas to spice up your bedroom during quarantine.

1. Redo your wall color.

Sometimes having the same wall color for many years can get old. Change it up by painting it a new color. If you aren’t down for the mess of painting, try adding a printed wallpaper.

2. Rearrange your furniture.

This can range from moving your bed to face a different way to reorganizing your shelves. By doing things like moving furniture to new places you can create more space in your room and give yourself a clearer mind set.

3. Add string lights around your room.

String lights can add a different mood to your room, whether they be colorful changing lights or just simple white lights. For me, adding string lights to a space gives it a calming feeling, especially at night.

4. Add posters to evoke your personality.

Posters can say a lot about a person. In my room, I recently put up posters of things l like such as a Friends poster and a How I met Your Mother poster. I also have posters of inspiring things like strong women throughout history and a “twisting lemons into lemonade” quote (a mantra I live by and a lyric from my favorite musical Dogfight).

5. Add photos.

I love having pictures of family and friends on my wall and I juxtapose them with pictures of places I’ve been to. It adds a nice pop of color to my room.

6. Do a huge clean out.

This sounds cliche, but cleaning out your room of unwanted items actually makes things better. Whether it be clothes you don’t fit into or shelves you don’t use anymore, a clean out is always a great option.

Go crazy and have fun redecorating your room!
