Give us a little info about yourself! Class year, name, where you are from, what you are studying.
Â
My name is Kelsey Abney, I’m from San Antonio, Texas, and I’m studying Middle Eastern Studies and International Relations with the intention of going into Pre-Law.
Â
Why did you make the âWomen’s College Problemsâ tumblr?
Â
It’s all in the name of procrastination.
Â
Where do you get the ideas/posts for the blog?
Â
People who go to women’s colleges are generally obsessed with making generalizations about women’s colleges, and procrastinating their time on Tumblr, so I thought I would sieze the opportunity to capitalize where I saw a demand. Also, there was another blog called college problems, and I felt that women’s colleges were a specific enough genre to garner its own problems.
When did you start it, and how successful has it been?
I started it approximately 9 months ago and have almost 2,000 followers. Compared to some of the other tumblr blogs, it’s not a huge following, but it’s an engaging distraction.
What’s the best part about having this moho tumblr?
It gave me a good starting platform to work on other projects that I have, as well as to begin projects at Mount Holyoke. I also like being able to reach a wider audience if there’s a particular issue that I want to inform people about.
Â
 A little more about Kelsey:
If you were stuck on a desert island and could only bring three things, what would they be?
Â
I would bring my girlfriend, a fishing pole, and one of those hand-cranked computers that they wanted to give to kids in Africa before they figured out that it was highly impractical.
Where can we find you on a friday night?
I’ll either be Skyping or sometimes I will be at JSU or UMASS Hillel
Â
What do you love about Mount Holyoke… despite all the problems!
I really love the friends that I have made here, as well as the numerous study abroad and internship opportunities. The professors are amazingly approachable and I’ve never experienced a classroom environment where I was uncomfortable. The diverse student body both at Mount Holyoke and in the pioneer valley allows me to engage in interesting conversations with a wide array of people who I might not meet anywhere else.
