5 Hot Chocolate Recipes For The Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Winter is here. It’s cold, windy, and frosty outside, so why not warm yourself up with some good old fashioned hot chocolate? It’s simple to make. The basic ingredients for any hot chocolate are cream, milk, chocolate, and sugar. To make hot chocolate, heat the cream and milk in a sauce pan. Then add the chocolate and stir till it melts. If you want it to be sweeter, add sugar. And that’s all. But if you are feeling adventurous, here are some more non-traditional hot chocolate recipes you should definitely try:

      1.  Spicy Dark Hot Chocolate

This recipe starts out like your usual hot chocolate. Take milk, cream, and dark chocolate and place them into a sauce pan. Then add cinnamon, sugar, and cayenne pepper, and you will get a spicy hot chocolate. If you want to try a completely different kind of hot chocolate, this recipe is for you!

 2. Starbucks Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

Now you can have your favorite Starbucks drink without ever having to leave the comfort of your home. This recipe calls for milk, bittersweet chocolate, and caramel sauce. Once again, heat all the ingredients up in a saucepan, including the caramel sauce. You can even add whipped cream on top!

     3. Vegan Chai Hot Chocolate

For those of you who are vegan or want to be healthy, this is the hot chocolate for you. Take vanilla almond milk, cocoa powder, and chai spice and heat all those ingredients in a pan. Then you’ll have a silky, luxurious hot chocolate to sip on while you sit on your porch reading a book.

     4. White Hot Chocolate

For something even sweeter, try using white chocolate. Again, you will heat up the cream and milk in a sauce pan. Then all you need to do is to add white chocolate and a splash of vanilla extract. And voila! You have white hot chocolate.

     5. Nutella Hot Chocolate

This recipe is for everyone that likes to eat nutella sandwiches for lunch. You can use regular milk or almond milk. After you’ve heated it up, add the nutella and a pinch of salt. Now you can drink your favorite flavor. If you want, you can also add mini marshmallows!

Hope you enjoy these recipes and satisfy your sweet tooth. Remember to stay warm and take care of yourself this winter. It’s time to rejuvenate after a long semester. Happy holidays everyone!
