3 Lip Balms That Will Save Your Chapped Lips This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

It’s freezing outside, the heater in your dorm is blasting, and the bag of salty potato chips you’re munching on is making the corners of your mouth feel like they’re on fire – an insidious combination that makes for the worst chapped lips. My lips were chapped the second that I stepped off the plane from Florida to Massachusetts, and I’m guessing that many of you are struggling with this as well. The following are my favorite lip balms for preventing and healing those dry, crusty lips.

Aquaphor Immediate Relief Lip Repair Balm

This classic, no-frills favorite is paraben, dye, preservative, and fragrance free. Aquaphor is dermatologist reccomended and makes for a great overnight treatment that provides long lasting moisture and lip conditioning. It can be purchased at almost any drugstore, so if you’re looking for simple and sheer this is the perfect balm for you.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve

Sold at Anthropologie and SEPHORA for around $7, this staple comes in classic flavors like rose and mint, as well as more adventurous scents like mandarin, mango, strawberry, mocha, brambleberry, and eucalyptus. It comes in two forms: small tins and tubes (both pictured above). This cult favorite calms and heals chapped lips and dry skin, while adding a glossy tint which beautifully enhances your natural lip color.

Balm Dotcom

Last is my personal go-to by Gen Z’s favorite makeup brand: Glossier! Balm Dotcom’s main ingredients are castor oil, beezwax, lanolin, cupuacu fruit extract, rice bran extract, and rosemary leaf. With eight flavors, sold at $12 a piece or $30 for a trio, you’ll want to get the trio. For a natural tint, buy cherry, berry, or mango. For a subtle sparkle, try birthday. Flavors like mint, coconut, and rose can be directly applied to any part of the body that needs extra moisture (elbows, cuticles, unruly eyebrows etc.). Let’s be real, the rave reviews speak for themselves.

XOXO,

Adele
