As summer approaches quickly, we begin to daydream about ditching our jackets for bikinis and snow boots for flip-flops. While we fantasize about the sunshine and warm days, we begin to pin every summer outfit on Pinterest and bring out our summer clothes bin that has been hidden away for months. As we try back on all our summer clothes to figure out what still fits us and what we need to buy, we scour the internet to figure out what trends are in and begin planning outfits. However, since this process usually takes hours of scrolling through TikTok and Pinterest to find the perfect outfits, I’ve decided to make it easier and compile my favorite summer trends.

Mini Skirts

Mini Skirts will always be a staple in my wardrobe, and this summer is no exception. From ultra mini to ruffled to pleated, mini skirts are always the go-to. This summer I predict that flowy, lighter mini skirts will be in, along with denim mini skirts. For the flowy mini skirts, think linen and ruffles, not body con. And for whatever reason, denim is making a major comeback, so denim mini skirts paired with a flowy top will be a staple this summer.

Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts hold a special place in my heart. They are the definition of iconic. This summer, maxi crochet, colorful, flowy, linen, or patterned skirts will be seen everywhere. Maxi skirts can be paired with a simple white tank, a short or long sleeve shirt, a flowy front tied shirt, or just about anything. Maxi skirts are a good investment as well since they are something I don’t see going out of style any time soon.

Sheer Dresses

Sheer dresses are on the rise this summer. From a simple color to a fun pattern, sheer dresses are the perfect dress for hot summer days. Simply throw one over your bikini or a cute lingerie set, and you have a cute outfit. The best part is you can dress it down for a casual beach day, wear one on a crazy night out, or even put full body spanx underneath and wear one to a nice dinner.

Simple White Tank Top

Simple white tank tops are less of a trend and more of a staple piece in your closet. You can wear a white tank top with just about anything. You can pair the tank with jean shorts or a mini skirt, you can dress one up or down with a maxi skirt, or you can pair jeans or sweatpants with the tank and call it a day. White tank tops are perfect for every occasion and every outfit, and it’s something that won’t go out of style.

Flowy Tops

Flowy tops have my Pinterest feed in a chokehold. Sheer flowy tops, flowy blouses, ruffle tops and front tie flowy tops are perfect summer pieces. You won’t get hot and they are a good way to turn a simple outfit into a more complex one. This is an item that I don’t think will stay in style for long, but if flowy tops are your aesthetic choice, it’s a good investment.

Denim Skirts and Dresses

The denim trend is strong this year, but funny enough, this trend includes anything but jean pants. Denim mini skirts and especially maxi skirts have been on the rise, along with full length and mini bodycon denim dresses. Denim maxi skirts with a slit in the front has been popping up on my TikTok For You page a lot. It can be paired with boots and a flowy front tie top or a cute crop top.

Long Shorts

Long shorts have been my style choice for a while now, and everyone else is finally realizing the long short power. I especially love long jean shorts, sort of an Adam Sandler vibe. Except I like to pair mine with a mini crop top for a big pants small top combo, but you can pair the shorts with a baggy graphic tee for a cute street style look too. I even love long cloth shorts too for a comfy summer look. I like to pair mine with a baggy crop top, a tank top, or a baggy graphic tee.

Colorful Slip Dresses

Colorful slip dresses are the best way to add some color into your closet while also creating a cute easy outfit. Silk dresses, ones that have a slit, or are flowy are going to be the rage this summer. And the best part is, you just have to throw one on and put on a cute pair of tennis shoes, sandals, or heels and you have the perfect outfit for any occasion.

Italian Summer

Everyone is obsessed with the quiet luxury aesthetic right now, but to me that is just an Italian summer vibe. To achieve this look without the price tag, these are the items you should have in your closet. First up is anything linen; linen dresses, pants, maxi skirts, shorts, blouses, tops, hats. Linen is perfect for the summer since the material is lightweight and you won’t get too hot wearing the fabric. Flowy, loose dresses instead of bodycon dresses will help you achieve this look as well. To achieve the quiet luxury aesthetic, you should also opt for more conservative fashion rather than revealing. Quiet luxury and Italian fashion are more about simple clothing versus making a statement.

These are only a few summer trends that you will see being worn by your favorite fashion influencers and on your Pinterest feed. A lot of these trends are simple pieces that you can accessorize to fit to your style. It’s important to remember that you don’t buy something just because it’s a trend. At the end of the day, the best trend to follow is what you’re into, because you’ll be able to wear that piece for longer and feel more confident in it. Thrifting and upcycling old clothes into something new are great ways to take part in trends you like while still being eco conscious! Now it’s time to go dig through your summer wardrobe and start planning the cutest outfits that make you feel confident!
