Name: Holly Morgan

Year: Freshman

Major: Accounting

Hometown: Pinckney, Michigan

What kind of organizations/activities are you involved in on campus? I am involved in Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, I’m a Spartan Success Scholar, and I am a student assistant in the math department.

What is your role as a student assistant in the math department? Basically, I do different day-to-day tasks, which include sorting mail for all of Well’s Hall, answering the phones and directing people to advisors. I answer emails and make copies; I do a lot of secretarial tasks and then will sometimes have bigger projects on the side.

What projects are you involved in? One of the bigger projects I’m working on now is helping the graduate program’s director with admissions for Fall 2016 for the graduate degree program at Michigan State. I add transcripts into a database so it’s an easier and shorter process for them to go through the data base.

What positive things have you gained from working your job? Coming in as a freshman, it made me way more comfortable with the school. I learned a lot about how the departments ran. If I had questions, I knew how to get the answers. I’ve also gained a lot of fundamental office skills that I can use in the future. I do a lot with excel and have definitely learned how to have good people skills. There’s a lot of directing people with questions to other people. It’s a very diverse department with many different students which can be challenging, but overall, it’s rewarding.

Do you have any advice to freshmen looking for on-campus jobs? If they’re coming in as a freshmen or new students, they should apply to as many jobs as possible. When I applied, I sent my resume to around 30 places, and for some of them, wasn’t sure what I was applying for. Also, it’s important to find something that works with their schedule, because it can be overwhelming. Working should always be second on your list, but my job is always flexible when it comes to school and my hours.

What do you do to destress from your busy schedule of balancing work and school? I like to just talk and hang out with my friends. We’ll grab dinner in the caf. I also enjoy working out.

What is your dream job? I wanna be the CFO of a fortune 500 company.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about school, and that’s not even a joke! I am passionate about anything having to do with my future; I enjoy school and bettering myself.

A Freshman at Michigan State University. Enjoys 90's movies, rock alternative music, and reading books of all kinds. Apart of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and studies Journalism. Can be found running around campus, eating heaps of food at the Caf, or cheering my Spartans on at Spartan Football Stadium!
