How to Dress for Fall When It’s Literally 100 Degrees Outside

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montevallo chapter.

Moist pumpkin bread with a maple glaze, fuzzy socks atop an ottoman near the fireplace, fallen leaves crunching under your Doc Martens; those are the simple pleasure of Autumn. Except it is Alabama, so the joys of September are less enthralling. Our thighs are still chafing and our air conditioner is still blasting on high. The idea of a cozy fall day spent in comfy sweatpants with a cup of warm apple cider sounds like torture rather than tradition.

Not to fret, you can still enjoy elements of fall fashion without having a heat stroke. Here are our top picks for dressing for autumn when it’s summer weather outside.

Cheetah Print for Days

From umbrellas to skirts, cheetah print has made an appearance everywhere. It’s safe to say this trend will be left behind in 2019, so you might as well make the most of it this fall season! Tuck in a graphic short-sleeve tee into a cheetah print skirt for an easy and breezy (hopefully, literally) outfit to strut around on your warm walks to class. Accessorize with a pair of glasses and chunky gold hoops to capture the essence of the fall model off duty look.

Denim Shorts For the Win

The key to dressing for fall when it’s hot outside is having a balance between fall and summer fashion. If you’re desperate to pull out your coziest sweater before winter, grab some ripped denim shorts to survive the potentially sweaty afternoon. It’s not sweater weather by any means, but at least you can try to make it work!

The Layered Dress Look

Layer a summer dress over a white or black t-shirt to effortlessly appear more festive this fall season. Bonus points if your dress is a fall color. As any pumpkin spice lover would say, pumpkin is the key to all things fall time. Pumpkin doesn’t have to just be incorporated into your diet, it can also be featured in your wardrobe’s color palette.

Statement Pants

A pair of yellow pants will be the conversational piece that everyone on campus will be talking about. Flowy pants are breathable for those hotter Autumn days. If your classrooms are cold, grab a moto jacket to layer over a crop top for the full fall effect!

Stop sweating around campus to feel festive for autumn and make smart fashion moves to capture the essence of fall without sweaters and scarfs. Besides, you can always lather up with some pumpkin spice lotion to embody fall spirit.
