Vibe with Our Tribe: Sabrina Araullo!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

I’m not the best at deciding what my “favorite” of anything is. Ask me about my favorite movie and I’ll probably start sweating. My only favorite, that I’m 100% sure about, is my favorite color. For those of you that don’t know, it’s peach. This indecisiveness has made choosing my top five favorite songs difficult, so here’s my humble attempt at choosing the songs that have inspired me and made my day a little brighter.

Young Folks by Peter, Bjorn, and John

Surprisingly, this one’s been one of my favorites since middle school. I love the quirkiness of the melody and the way the song mirrors a back-and-forth conversation. Most of all, I love the lyrics. They’re the reason I’ve loved Young Folks for so long. It’s the song’s message of mutual acceptance of past histories and “baggage” that I find beautiful and what place it on my list.

New Romantics by Taylor Swift

I first heard this song on the radio two days ago, and about thirty seconds later I downloaded it. It’s like every other Taylor Swift pop song: catchy, bright, and every line is like a clever Instagram caption that took you 2 hours to come up with. It’s a song about us, young people falling in and out of love and everything in between. It’s this powerfully relatable aspect that land this song on my list.

Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

This is one of those songs that brighten my day a little more and make me want to give a hug to everyone I see. The song’s fun, different, and has a light sprinkle of Southern-ness that I absolutely adore. My favorite part would probably be where two speakers talk about the time he realized he was in love with her. If you’re wondering, it was when he was driving her to the hospital after she fell out of his window. I told you this song was different.

Stubborn Love by The Lumineers

As I continue writing this I’m beginning to notice just how hopelessly romantic I am…I have mixed feelings about this revelation. To me, this song is about loving someone regardless of how “broken” they may seem. My favorite line is “it’s better to feel pain, then nothing at all” and that in itself is a comforting thought, that the pain you’ve been through wasn’t for nothing. It’s a beautiful song overall with an even greater message.

Daylight by Matt and Kim

The last addition to my top 5 favorites would have to be Daylight. This is my feel-good song that I’ll be blasting when I’m not feeling like my usual cup of sunshine. I dare you to listen to this when you’re in a bad mood too. Hopefully you’ll feel slightly better, but if not then it’s still a pretty good song to listen to.
