Julissa Gonzalez is a sophomore at Montclair State University and is majoring in business management. You may have seen this campus celebrity at the Student Recreation Center on campus. Julissa tells us about her experience working at the Student Recreation Center, “I work at the Student Recreation Center. I first started off as a facilities attendant and then worked my way up as a building manager. As this year progressed, I applied to become the Head building manager and I got the position! As of next year I will be the new head Building manager and I couldn’t be more excited!” Julissa considers the Student Recreation Center to be her second home. We are so excited for all of your accomplishments, Julissa!
It is no surprise that Julissa chose to major in business management because she is already a student leader on campus working at the Student Recreation Center. Julissa lets us know why she chose the major that she did. “I chose my major as business management because I love being a leader and I enjoy the responsibility that comes with it. It’s not even so much of the power and telling people what to do, it’s more of the ability to inspire people and push people to work to their greatest potential. If I can help people in such a way where they realize that they are better than they believe, then I think that that is a job well done”. Julissa is not exactly sure what she wants to do when she gets older but, she wants to work in a hotel or a casino. Working in hospitality is something she knows she wants to do because she considers herself to be a people pleaser and she loves to make people happy!
Whenever Julissa has free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends, going to the mall, working out at the gym, and watching movies and shows on Netflix. Julissa is also very crafty; she enjoys going on Pinterest to find new things to make or draw. Julissa explains when she began to draw and how much she loves it. “One of my biggest talents I believe is drawing or anything that is hands on and requires creative abilities. Around sophomore year of high school I found my hidden talent in drawing and it became a passion of mine. As of now, I don’t really draw as much as I used to, but when I do it brings back old memories. It is almost hard to describe the feeling of inspiration that I get before I draw, during it, and after. It’s a feeling that comes and goes, but once I pick up that pencil and start drawing I just can’t seem to stop until it is finished”. Here is one of the pieces that Julissa did in the past:

Julissa’s mother inspires her the most. “[One] person who inspires me the most would be my mother. She is the strongest woman that I have ever met in my entire life because she takes all of the negatives and channels it into something positive. If there is one thing that I have learned from her, that is that if there is a will there is a way; that mentality definitely pushed me to become the person that I am today. My mom is definitely someone who I would love to be when [get] older.
Fun Fact: What is something interesting about yourself that people don’t know?
“I guess something interesting about me is that I have a huge family! In my immediate family, I am one of six, but on my mom’s side I have 12 aunts and uncles and they have about a million kids each! I think I actually calculated it one day and I have about 36 first cousins. It’s crazy I know, but I wouldn’t want it any other way”.
