New York Fashion Week has once again concluded and we have been exposed to all types of trends that will be consistent throughout the new fashion season. As we all know, fashion is a cycle and the current trends are always evolving. So, it’s time to let go of what we were so comfortable with and start embracing new styles that we would never dare to wear.

New York Fashion Week ran from Feb. 10 to Feb. 15, 2023, and featured 74 runway shows and presentations from returning designers. A few designers who were there include Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, Prabal Gurang and Christian Siriano. There were many celebrities that made an appearance, such as Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour. Attending the shows in person are usually invitation only, but many of the designers have their shows uploaded on YouTube as well as other platforms such as social media.

Without further ado, here are some of the trends to keep an eye out for:

Red: Moving away from the fuschia trend, we are moving into the color red. This color usually has its popularity during the holiday season but has always been known for symbolizing class, sexiness and elegance. Pulling off red is all about confidence and can be dressed up or down.

Leather: This is one of my favorite trends that has been emerging over the past couple of months. We have seen different colors and prints of leather (for example, snakeskin) slowly being released at the end of 2022, and that was only the beginning. We are going to see an emergence of leather everything, from pants to dresses to tops to trench coats.

90’s Minimalism: Y2K has been one of the most popular trends due to social media, but we are slowly moving into our 90’s minimalist fashion era. We are saying goodbye to the miniskirts and glitter, and hello to the maxi skirts and denim on denim. This shift is a reminder that less can be more.

Tuxedo (With A Twist): Pantsuits have been a style staple not only for the office but for everyday wear. Instead of sticking with a plain suit and blazer, it’s time to mix it up. A trend we can look forward to is being more creative with the business casual specialty. Examples are a cropped blazer and dress pants/skirt with similar feature to tailored pants, and a cutout blazer dress.

Animal Prints: They are back and ready to play. This trend is not so much a shocker as it always comes back around and never disappoints us, but it also feels like it never really left. We can expect to see dual-toned animal prints, pictures of the actual animals on clothing (which may be not as favored), etc.

Highlighter Fashion: Along with the beautiful red comeback, we can also expect the 80’s to knock on our doors. Highlighter neons are making a comeback and it is perfect for spring. Whether it is green, orange, yellow or Barbiecore pink, we will see it not only in our beachwear but in every type of design you can think of. Even more formally, which shows how versatile these bright colors can be.
