LaQuan Smith’s Riveting Black Bold Theme: Fall/Winter 2020 NYFW

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

LaQuan Smith graced the New York Fashion Week runway this week with his Fall/Winter 2020 collection. This collection is far from any collection we’ve seen before. Smith’s scrupulous skills were displayed on fierce models as they served mesmerizing, jaw-dropping looks this season. Smith’s models were accessorized with dark, glossy burgundy lips and various styles of sleek ponytails, uniquely tailored to each model, and finalized with meticulous, stylish footwear. The show opened up with a model flaunting an all black themed look with leather quilted lace thigh high stiletto heels, and a slim fitting black halter strap dress, that revealed her bust and legs in an alluring manner. Judging by the reaction of the industry-led audience, Smith definitely set the right tone for his upcoming looks to follow.

The next line of struts introduced four distinctive wood brown bold looks. These looks represented your fierce but chic women who love to use fashion as a statement. The various combinations resembled a modern take on women bosses attire that can be diversified off the runway on to any woman, who wants to feel and look like a supermodel.

As the show persisted Smith’s models strutted down the reputable New York runway in sexy black, groundbreaking designs, inevitable for noteworthy praises in the fashion world. Each look consisted of modern futuristic designs that took a captivating spin towards rebelliousness. The designer uses bold black and hints of white along with a few colors to pull together an immaculate ensemble that reflects an unapologetic glamorous feel with a street edge twist.

Some of my favorite moments during Smith’s show were the occasional elements of fluorescent blue outfit designs. It was a clever way to intersect color without taking away from the riveting dark bold theme. Smith promoted body diversity in his designs with a black sheer velvet body con dress strutted by a plus-size model. Her stunningly fierce figure complimented the couture design. Overall, LaQuan Smith delivered a magnificent line of designs that are bound to spark some influential ideas in the fashion industry. His innovative, edgy perspective is nightlife and red carpet ready, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of my favorite celebrities such as Rihanna or Beyoncé, rocking LaQuan Smith’s latest looks from the Fall/Winter 2020 season.
