If you ask me, women make up most of the iconic moments in popular culture. Here are some moments that live rent-free in my mind.

  1. Taylor Swift making her online store 25% off after Donald Trump said he liked her music 25% less

In 2018, Taylor Swift made one of her first ever political statements regarding the upcoming midterm election. After openly condemning a Republican candidate, Donald Trump told the press that he liked Taylor’s music “about 25% less.” That same day, Taylor Swift made everything on her online store 25% off. Iconic.

  1. Beyoncé releasing “Lemonade” as a visual album

We all know where we were when Beyonce announced “Lemonade.” And while she’s had so many other iconic moments in music, “Lemonade” was a staple – it was one of the first mainstream visual albums and an inspiration for many artists to come.

  1. Billie Eilish dominating the Grammy’s at age 18

We all know who Billie Eilish is – but if you were watching the 2020 Grammy’s, you definitely know who Billie Eilish is. Taking home six Grammys that night alone, Eilish became the youngest person to win the four “big” awards at the award show – and the first person to do it in 40 years.

  1. Lorde’s tweet to Diplo

Lorde rarely makes her public appearances, but when she does, they are hilarious. In 2014, she went on Twitter to respond to Diplo’s tweet. Diplo had tweeted, “Someone should make a kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a booty,” to which Lorde responded, “@Diplo should we do something about your tiny penis while we’re at it hm.”

  1. Ariana Grande’s comment to paparazzi

Imagine 100+ paparazzi screaming at you all at once to look at their camera as they take pictures of you on the red carpet. Even scarier – imagine that they’re all men. When a man screamed at Ariana Grande, “Ariana! You’re not smiling!” Ariana confidently said, “And what about it?” and then turned around.

  1. Taylor Swift single-handedly getting all men off of the Billboard Top 10 for the first time in music history

Taylor Swift did God’s work this month when she became the first artist to ever occupy the entire top 10 on the Billboard #Hot100. For the first time in the history of music, there were no men in the top 10. Amazing. Beautiful.

  1. Dakota Johnson calling out Ellen Degeneres

We’ve all seen the clip. When Ellen Degeneres accused Dakota Johnson of not inviting her to her birthday party, Dakota responded, “That’s not true, Ellen – you were invited,” iconically calling Ellen out on the platform that Ellen often used to embarrass her guests.

  1. Ariana Grande’s “Thank u, next” music video

Ariana Grande’s iconic “Thank u, next” music video took the internet by storm in 2018 when she released the surprise song. The video recreates visuals from four iconic female-led movies, including “Legally Blonde,” “Mean Girls,” “Bring It On” and “13 Going on 30.” It was the highest debuting music video, and had everyone talking.
