Diy Costumes for the College Girl on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

If you have some makeup, dresses, shirts, a couple bucks and the will to do it you can have a great Halloween costume without having to spend $40+ on something you will most likely only wear once.

Boxer:

I was a boxer last year, and although I paid for an actual costume from Spirit Halloween, I did some research for this article and I found a way to create this costume without spending the $50 I spent. All you need is a sports bra, athletic shorts, a silk/satin robe, and you may have to purchase fingerless athletic gloves if you don’t have gauze or your own fingerless gloves. If you wish, you can find pink boxing gloves at Walmart for $20 however from my own experience it is very difficult to hold anything with these gloves on. To finish off the outfit put your hair in two french braids to make it clear that you’re a boxer.

Victoria Secret Angel:

The Victoria Secret Angel has a lot of the same costume pieces as the boxer costume: a satin/silk robe, if you want to include this, a sports bra, boyshort style underwear/athletic shorts, and you’ll have to purchase a pair of angel wings. When I was in seventh grade I wore a costume that required angel wings and they shed feathers all night so I’d recommend fabric wings. You can purchase either black or white velvet wings from Spirit Halloween for $15.

Party animal(s):

One of the simplest and least expensive costumes, that can also be a group costume, is the party animal(s). You just have to pick whatever animal you wish to be whether that be a cat,  a cheetah or a bunny; just some makeup and animal ears are part one of this costume. Then all you need is a party hat and a blowout/noisemaker. This would be best as a group costume because you can purchase both party hats and blowouts for a couple of dollars and you will get at least six per packet.

Mummy:

The final DIY costume is a mummy costume. This costume requires a white bra, a white skirt/white shorts and gauze. The gauze just has to be strategically wrapped to cover your top and bottom to create a cute two-piece. Wrap the gauze around your waist to create a skirt out of your gauze. Then wrap it around your breasts to completely cover your chest to look like a crop top, and if you want to you can customize the look any way you want by creating straps out of the gauze as well. Then finally put some pieces of gauze around your legs, arms and through your hair to top off the look.

I hope these looks help you find a cute and easy DIY costume to either wear to a party or out with family, and now have looks that you can have pieces to reuse in the future.
