Collin Smith

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

If you live in the Village, you may not be aware of the decision-making and planning that goes on behind the scenes to enrich your living experience on campus. Home to 848 junior and senior residents, the Village has just elected the new members of its’ Hall Council. Meet Collin Smith, this year’s Village Hall Council President!

Age: 21
Year: Junior
Major: Political Science

What are the responsibilities of the Village Hall Council President?
The constitution states that I will “draw up an agenda for all Village Hall Council meetings.” Personally, I intend to interact and develop ideas with my fellow council members that will not only entertain the residents of the Village and other members of the Montclair State Community but also help the residents grow in their field of study, skill, or simple idea.

What made you interested in running for this position?
It’s a blend of me always wanting to be the leader of something mixed with my cool, calm, clever, and sometimes corny demeanor the people respect and love.

Is there anything you plan on changing with your new position?
Yes, the atmosphere of the Village.

Is taking on the position as Village Hall Council President related to your major or future career?
It is. I plan on running for an elected position in the near future. This is how I intend to get my leadership skills up and open up new doors to my future success and happiness.

What’s your advice for anyone interested in doing this?
Don’t talk about it, be about it.
