“The Circle” On Netflix is the Best New Reality Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

With all the popular reality competition tv shows that we know and love, there is now a new show on Netflix called “The Circle” and I am obsessed. It’s basically a twist on Big Brother, but players never meet face-to-face. Players have to form alliances and get to know each other via a social media app, The Circle. This new show, which releases new episodes every Wednesday, is pure reality trash TV. However, each episode makes you coming back for more. With exciting plot twists, catfishes, and romances that form, this is definitely a show you won’t want to miss.

The show is pretty much a way to show how cool you are via social media, and the last player in The Circle wins a cash prize of $100,000. There’s definitely a Black-Mirror-esque feel to the show, so I highly recommend it if you’re a Black Mirror fan. All the players that come on the show have so many different personalities that make you want to be their best friends. Each day, players have to get to know each other by starting conversations, playing games and flirting. At the end of the day, players will rank who their favorite other Circle members are–the top 2 players will then become “influencers.” These influencers then decide who they want to block from the circle. Once a player is blocked, they are allowed to pick one other player in the Circle to meet face-to-face… and not everyone is who they say they are.

Each episode gets more and more wild and will literally have you screaming. I finished the season a week ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it. THERE’S JUST SO MUCH DRAMA. In the first episode, you are introduced to the first players in the Circle: Alana, Antonio, Chris, Joey, Mercedeze, Rebecca, Sammie, and Shubham. However, both Mercedeze and Rebecca are catfish. Will the other players find out who the catfishes are? You’ll have to watch to find out!
