Campus Cutie: Nicole Spataro

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Name: Nicole Spataro

Age: 20

Major: Fashion Studies / Communication

Career Goals: To have a career in fashion PR.

Life Aspirations: I’m looking forward to interning this summer and then graduating college the following year.  After that, I would like to get a full time job.

HCM: When did you start your blog, The Inspiration Closet?

NS: I started The Inspiration Closet about a year ago.  I needed a place where I could share my love for fashion and writing with other people who shared the same passion.  It ended up being one of the best things I ever did!  I’ve met so many amazing women, and making connections with brands has helped me to land an internship!

HCM: Tell us the meaning behind the name!

NS: I remember the day I was trying to decide on a name.  I was with two of my friends and we were relaying names back and forth.  I wanted to feel like anyone could come in and pull inspiration from my page, as if they were pulling out an outfit or a pair of shoes from a closet.  So eventually, I came up with the name “The Inspiration Closet.”

HCM: Tell us more about your blog and your goals with it.

NS: In addition to fashion, I blog about beauty tips and do it yourself ideas.  Sometimes, I also write about how to help others in need.  It’s always good to give back.  The main goal for my blog is to continue to grow.  I love having a voice online to share my thoughts and ideas.

HCM: What inspired you to start your blog?

NS: I was first inspired to start blogging by a professor in one of my fashion classes.  She talked about the importance of bloggers and the impact they have on the fashion industry.  I’ve always been interested in writing and photography, so blogging felt like a natural fit for me.

HCM: What motivates you to keep up with your blog and continue with it?

NS: Keeping myself inspired is what motivates me to continue blogging every day.  I look to Pinterest, Tumblr, advertisements, and magazines for most of my inspiration.

HCM: What are some of your fashion go-to accessories?

NS: My go-to accessories are a pair of sunglasses and some statement jewelry.  A statement necklace, or a pair of really interesting earrings can make a plain t-shirt look instantly glam.

HCM: Tell me about your favorite store!

NS: I highly recommend Zara to anyone who hasn’t shopped there before!  You can find some amazing high quality pieces for affordable prices.  Particularly if you need an interview outfit, or something a little dressier, Zara is the perfect place to go.

HCM: What would be your ideal date and what would you wear?

NS: My ideal date would be a trip to the beach.  It’s a really romantic date because you can watch the sun go down by the water, but it’s also a lot of fun because you could visit the boardwalk, go on rides, etc.  I would keep it casual and wear some Converse, floral shorts, and a white t-shirt.

HCM: How is it possible to be fashionable with this miserable frigid weather?

NS: I’m not going to lie, it’s very hard.  Especially because I have to take my coat off all the time to photograph my outfits, it gets trying.  Layers are your best friend.

HCM: Most college students are obviously on a budget. What would your advice be for students trying to be trendy on a budget?

NS: It’s not hard at all to be fashionable on a budget!  I rarely buy expensive items, and if I do it’s because I want to have them for a long time.  Stores like Target, T.J. Maxx, and Marshalls have become really good at keeping up with the trends while remaining low priced.
