Welcome freshman, you have officially begun a new chapter in your life here at Montclair State University. You have made it through your first week of classes, met new people, and may have gotten a little lost on campus. This is your time to shine; college is about exploring different opportunities, finding who you are, what interests you, and where you belong. HC Montclair has pieced a few words of advice to help ease your transition:
- Have an open mind: You aren’t in high school anymore, be open to new opportunities and express yourself in the way you wish.
- Do not head straight to the campus bookstore: You will find better prices for your textbooks on sites such as Chegg and Amazon.com. Do your research and compare prices.
- Get in a routine: Having a routine down will not only keep you organized but will leave you stress free. Organize your free time between classes wisely, schedule a specific time for your homework, a time to eat, and of course time to unwind.
- Do not miss class: You are paying for your education and you are lucky to be able to be there. There is always a positive correlation between class attendance and your overall grade in the class.
- Get involved on campus: Put your best foot forward, get out of your comfort zone, try new things! Getting involved is the best way to meet new people. Join a club pertaining to your major or something that interests you.
What are the best ways to get involved on campus?
- Join a club. You could go from being a member to becoming a leader! You never know. Give it a try!
- Attend fall frenzy events http://www.montclair.edu/red-hawk-frenzy/fall-frenzy-event-details/#d.en.33557
- Go Greek and join a sorority! You’ll become a part of a whole new kind of sisterhood.
- Join an intramural sports team. You’ll get a workout in, while making new friends.
- Keep your eyes and ears open- there are always announcements about campus events and meetings
