7 Winter Items Every Closet Needs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

The end of every season means the start of the next. With fall coming to an end, winter is coming and it’s coming fast. This means one thing…it’s time to switch out wardrobe yet again. Going through your clothes, buying new pieces and switching up your closet is one of the best parts of every season, and I’m here to share with you seven staple items that every winter closet needs. These seven pieces are: scarves, gloves, hats, boots, turtlenecks, sweaters and jackets.

Scarves

The first staple piece is scarves, which are a lifesaver for the winter season. Not only do they keep your neck warm when you want to wear a low-cut shirt but they’re such a cute accessory. You can dress up or dress down any scarf, the best scarf to have for the winter season is a blanket scarf, just the title alone is enough to make me buy five of them. They’re so big and come in so many colors and patterns!

Gloves

The next staple item is gloves, they’re a must-have because they keep your hands warm. As college kids, we’re always walking around campus or on our phones and we don’t always want to have our hands in our pockets.

Hats

The next staple is hats, which are my favorite wintertime staple accessory! I think beanies and comfy winter hats are so cute and go with any outfit! You can dress them up and down, they go with everything and are so simple to pair with any outfit, they will not only keep you warm but keep you stylish!

Boots

The next items that are a staple are boots, there are so many different styles you can’t go wrong with any of them. Whether they’re UGGS to keep your feet warm on a cold day or a pair of black leather combat or chelsea boots or even suede boots, any boot in any style is a must-have. They pair well with denim, pants or leggings and you can dress them up and down, they’re so universal and are needed in any closet.

Turtlenecks

The fifth staple are turtlenecks, which are my favorite clothing item to wear throughout the winter season. They’re the perfect layering piece and truly go with everything, they come in every color and are simple in design.

Sweaters

The sixth item is sweaters. This is an obvious one, but if your closet isn’t filled with sweaters then you might be cold most winter days. Sweaters are so easy to find and style, they have so many different designs, patterns, colors and materials you really can’t have enough.

Jackets

Last but not least the final winter closet staple is jackets! They’re so crucial, they’re the final layer on any outfit any time of the year, but especially in winter. You can have a fur jacket, a puffer jacket or a fleece jacket, all of them are cute and when styled correctly can go with any outfit. I love jackets, they’re so cozy, warm and stylish!

These are the seven staples everyone needs in their winter closets. The best part about all of them is that they can all be worn together to create one amazing winter outfit!
