With every new year comes new resolutions that are just too hard and stressful to keep! So this year, rather than swearing to lose 10 pounds, watch less reality TV, get more sleep, and so on, why not make some goals that will actually be fun to achieve and make you feel more confident? Here are six fun and easy ideas to embrace this new year in style.

1. Change up your hair.

New year, new hair! A new hairstyle is always a great way to a new look. Whether you want to get highlights, chop off a few inches, or add some colorful streaks, this will definitely be an exciting way to rock 2018. If you’re nervous about the idea of changing your appearance, this doesn’t have to be a bold change. You don’t have to go dye your blonde hair black or anything crazy for this resolution. Something as simple as just tying your hair up into a ponytail or bun if you always wear it down will still achieve this resolution!

2. Experiment with makeup.

Why not treat yourself to a bright new Fenty lipstick or a shiny Sephora eyeshadow pallet? You deserve it! If you prefer the natural look, then rather than stepping too far out of your comfort zone, it may be a good idea just try a new flavored lip balm or a different type of foundation. Either way, you will feel more confident and ready to take on the new year!

3. Have fun with braids.

If you are looking for a way to change up your hair and don’t know many advanced styles, braids are a good way to go. It is so easy to find various types of braided hair tutorials on Youtube, Insta, or even Google. Whether you want to try a simple side braid or a more advanced dutch braid, you will definitely find something worth trying out.

4. Get a statement jacket.

Jackets not only are necessary for keeping warm, but when chosen correctly they have the power to make any outfit pop! The key to picking the perfect jacket is finding one that compliments your own style. If you tend to go for edgy choices, you can never go wrong with a crisp leather jacket. Or if you are more of a bohemian, experiment with fringe and earthy-colored longer pieces. Investing in a nice jacket will definitely help you stay warm and transform your wardrobe this year!

5. Hit the thrift shops.

Shopping on a college budget is tough! It is definitely tricky to fill your closet with great outfits when you barely have enough money for a few tops at the mall. However, thrift shopping is a fun and affordable alternative. I worked at a consignment shop for over a year and I was instantly amazed by the deals. Though it does not sound like the most glamourous shopping option, at a thrift shop, you can buy designer clothes for inexpensive prices. I once bought a Guess sweater for under $20 and a Michael Kors top for only $14! Hitting up the thrift stores will easily help you start shopping smart this year!

6. Put your personal style above trends.

Last but not least, always remember to stay true to your own unique style. From velvet to off the shoulder to overalls, 2017 was filled with so many trends it was hard to keep track. Chances are, 2018 will also feature various new trends, but that doesn’t mean you should always jump on board. If you love the edgy look and all your favorite celebrities are ditching leather jackets for blazers this year, what should you do? Buy more leather. Trends come and go but individual style never dies. That’s why this is the most important resolution for the new year: don’t be a slave to trends and be sure to rock 2018 in YOUR style!
