Summer is around the corner, collegiettes! These next two weeks will pass in the blink of an eye, and then, four long, amazing months are free of any school work. Well, if you aren’t taking summer classes, of course! Either way, many of you will be going on fun vacations, and HC Montclair thought it would be a great idea to teach you how to pack your suitcase for them! With these helpful tips, packing won’t seem like a nag anymore and you’ll enjoy your vacation even more.

1. Bring two suitcases and one carry on. Most flights allow each person up to two suitcases for the flight, and then a carry on to board with you. You should dedicated one suitcase for heavier things such as shoes, a blow dryer, handbags, etc. Make sure to wrap each pair of shoes in a plastic bag to prevent germs from spreading as well. The other suitcase should be for clothes, undergarments, bikinis, towels, skincare products, makeup, etc. The carry on should be where you keep your most valuable things such as your phone, wallet, expensive jewelry, extra cash, and of course, your ticket!

2. Be realistic when deciding what to bring. Don’t bring everything but the kitchen sink to your vacation because you’ll be wasting valuable space in your luggage! If you’re staying somewhere for two weeks or less, bring five to six options for each clothing item. The less time you spend there, the less you should bring. It’s important to bring things that can match with each other as well, because you can mix and match certain things on different days. Bring things that you know you’ll wear, and leave all of the “maybe” options at home. If you’re not certain about something, you most likely won’t wear it.

3. Try rolling your clothes in your suitcase. Instead of folding each clothing item, try rolling each clothing item. This can save you a ton of space in your suitcase, and will be much easier to take out and put back in place. This may even cut your packing time in half because you won’t have to worry too much about wrinkling your clothes.

4. Make things easy to find. When you’re on vacation, the last thing you will want to do is make your suitcase a mess because you can’t find those pair of shorts for your outfit. You won’t want to be in your room during your vacation, so don’t waste time by not caring about how you packed your suitcase. Organize your suitcase by packing each clothing item in the same spot. Leave your shirts in one corner, your bottoms in another, and your dresses in another. You’ll thank yourself later for doing this!
