Why Disney World is Even Better in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Monmouth chapter.

Disney World is magical when you’re little, but I can officially confirm that it’s even better when you’re in college (specifically, when you’re over 21). For spring break, I went to Disney with my family for the first time in over a decade. I didn’t know if my memories would match reality, but I actually had more fun than I even anticipated.

1. You appreciate it more

When you’re younger, you don’t really take time to appreciate the beauty in Disney’s design. It really does feel like the happiest place on earth. All my senior year stress melted away. If you go during Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival, you’ll have some added scenery to admire.

2. The drinks

Drinking around the world is only one benefit. How about finally being able to order poolside drinks?

3. The food

As someone who is gluten-free, it can be really hard to eat. Disney is the most accommodating place that I’ve ever been. I could walk into any restaurant and I would be handed an extensive gluten-free menu. You can even ask to speak to a chef to ensure that your allergies are being taken care of! The highlights were Dole Whips, gf Mickey waffles, and the meatless meatballs from 50’s Prime Time Café in Hollywood Studios.

Also, the COFFEE. The mochas in my hotel (the Yacht Club) were better than my daily mocha from Starbucks. I’m missing it as we speak.

4. Feeling like a kid again

Despite treating the trip like an early celebration for college graduation, I felt like a kid the entire time. One day I wore a shirt from Etsy that said “never grow up” on it, and I could not believe in that statement more. It may be dorky, but there is nothing better than wearing sequin Minnie ears and not having a care in the world.

5. Family time

Even though I commute to my campus, it’s still rare that I’m home. I don’t spend nearly as much time with my family as I would like, so it was really nice to be there with them. Family time is something that we definitely all take for granted when we’re younger, and Disney was the perfect way to make some new memories with them.

If you’re able to take a trip to Disney World, never think that you’re “too old” to go. I guarantee that you’ll have more fun now than you ever did before.
