Selena Gomez is Back and Better Than Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Monmouth chapter.

We’re starting the year off right. Selena Gomez is back, babe! Some would say, she’s come “Back To You.” It’s been a hot second, I know, but Gomez always knows how to make a comeback. And a comeback, she made.

This month was a big one for Gomez. She stepped away from her haters, and decided to, instead, “Kill Em With Kindness.” She came back from her almost four month hiatus from Instagram and surprised her whopping 144 million followers with a comeback post to welcome in 2019 in the very best way, daring her fans to “Come And Get It.”

She wanted to let her fans know her appreciation, and love she gives out to all the people who have stood by her, and up for her, thanking them for the support she has received during a difficult few months for her.

In this post, she seemed to set out to empower her followers by reflecting on the importance of self-growth, inspiring many that it’s okay to “Slow Down,” and making it impossible not to relate to.

Gomez took about two months to herself, away from the public eye, to focus on something very important to her, rightfully so; her health. As a survivor of a kidney transplant, complications arose due to a low, white blood cell count. This resulted in having to be hospitalized twice, sending Gomez to seek out treatment for her Mental Health at an East Coast facility.

Shortly after the first post of the New Year, which currently has almost 8,700,000 likes, she shared another beautiful shot, shown below:

Many are excited, as is Gomez, to see the new project she is foreshadowing, partnering up with Puma once again.

“Naturally,” I think this is so empowering to see. Social media can be a hot-ass mess, not to mention, a nuisance. Now, I’m a self-proclaimed grandma when it comes to social media, but I am an advocate for taking some ‘me time’, every once in a while. Life can get crazy. It’s refreshing to not be so consumed with the outside world, and the portrayal you think everyone wants to see, and just focus on yourself. At the end of the day, it’s “Only You.” Just take a sec to breathe. Away from it all.

Gomez has recently been photographed on a snow-tubing trip with her friends, as well as horseback riding. However, this is her first solo picture on her Instagram. First one for 2019. Starting the year off on the right foot, with positivity and a smile. Oh, and seemingly, celebrating life, everyday, like it’s her “Birthday.”
