Oh Boy: This Twitter Account Rates Your Shitty Exes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Monmouth chapter.

In only a month’s time, college student Michaela Okland (@MichaelaOkla) has accumulated over one hundred thousand Twitter followers in what she calls “the community of bad dog rating.” Described as “as a fun platform for girls to share their past shitty and laughable experiences in the dating world,” SheRatesDogs (@SheRatesDogs) is Michaela’s ingenious and feminist-friendly take on the popular account WeRateDogs (@dog_rates). The concept of SheRatesDogs is simple- absurd conversations between men and women are submitted through direct message and shared onto the account. Each “dog” is given a score but unlike the angels of WeRateDogs, the scum featured on this Twitter page receives the negative digits they deserve. Scrolling through SheRatesDogs, it is quite unbelievable that boys like THIS actually exist:

YIKES…

I JUST VOMITED IN MY MOUTH

WHEN WILL IT END?

SERIOUSLY???

OKAY WTF?

*LOGS OUT OF THE CHAT*

While the content is often so ridiculous that you cannot help but laugh, the purpose of SheRatesDogs is no longer solely to entertain. With a rapidly growing social influence, Michaela has set out to spread awareness through her platform about an underlying issue women unfortunately continue to face: domestic abuse. As stated on the SheRatesDogs official site, “nearly one third of women report having an abusive partner in their lifetimes. 1 in 6 women in America have survived an attempted or completed rape.” Michaela links her audience to related articles and encourages young women to seek help if they believe they may be in an abusive relationship.

Show support for SheRatesDogs by purchasing a shirt or two from her brand new (and totally adorable) online store and remember to follow @michaelaokla + @SheRatesDogs on Twitter!

As a senior at Monmouth University, I have partnered with my co-correspondent, Jenna, in founding our own chapter of Her Campus.
