Dear Freshman Year,

As much as I loved you, it pains me so little to say that I’ve found someone better for me at this time of my life. He’s a year older than you. While he has a lot of mystery to him, I think he has a little more compromise to meet me halfway than you did; At least, I hope. You were so unpredictable, I felt like I was always in the unknown with you. I had so many big plans for us, so many hopes for you, but many times you built me up to only let me down. Like I would go to sleep one night having a plan for the weekend, then you would cancel them with pandemic misfortune. However, I will never regret nor forget you. We may have had many lows, but we also had an abundance of highs. Times where I felt like life was normal again, where I felt complete and utter bliss. And while those low’s were felt, those high’s certainly were as well and experienced to a higher extent.

You were a game-changer. You tested me, you challenged me, and you pushed me past my comfort zones in more ways than I can count. You were a year where I fell in love with someone, and I continue to do so in the next chapter, the next year, Sophomore year; That’s his name.

So, Freshman Year, treat the next freshman a little better, with a little more predictability, provide them with more opportunities than class behind a computer screen, enable them to hug their friends and family in comfort without the fear of a pandemic. We both have a lot of work to do for ourselves, and I wish you all the best, but while I experienced some of the greatest times with you, I know the best has yet to come.

Sincerely,

A New Sophomore
